As we’re still relishing these glorious days of our endless Maui summer, we’re stoked to share that our Wings Hawaii Sunrise Shells are back!! It’s been a few years since we’ve worked with these natural beauties. They’re one of our favorites, because Sunrise Shells are truly special and unique – symbolizing the Aloha spirit, hope, strength, happiness, and joy. Who couldn’t use more of all that?
A small scallop shell native to the Hawaiian Islands, sunrise shells are thought to be sacred and to bestow blessings upon the wearer. We source ours from a friend who dives for them off the shores of Oahu. They can be super hard to find, living 300 to 600 feet deep, and need to be cleaned from calcification. After selecting the perfect ones to feature, we design our necklaces and rings to really showcase the exceptional beauty of the each individual shell. These stunners don’t need a lot of bells and whistles – their dazzling hues and iconic shapes are stars of the show.
Like all Wings Hawaii jewelry, these are proudly locally designed and lovingly handcrafted by our jewelry makers in our Haiku studio. Our sunrise shell necklaces and rings are available in sterling silver or gold-filled chains and settings. (Solid gold pieces coming soon!)
We like to envision them as dazzling statement pieces that embody love and respect for the ocean and Hawaii’s natural beauty. Maybe it’s that perfect final touch for a beach wedding,
